Carolyn Kilgo Weinman

 carolyn 2000.png

I am native Texan, born in Gatesville and have lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex since 1969. I have no formal studies in art other than the public school systems. I love the out-of-doors and have a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and animals. I try to express that love through my art. The mediums that I work in are acrylic, oil, and watercolor. I also work in mixed media, collage, photography and graphic design.

Art has always been a part of my life in one form or another. Drawing and painting through school and as a young adult. I didn’t paint again for almost thirty years. Photography filled my artistic challenges for those years. My love of nature has taken me on travels throughout the United States, London, and Tanzania & Kenya, Africa. After returning from my last trip to Africa in 2000 I started painting again and haven’t stopped.

I free-lanced as a photographer for the Fort Worth Zoo with photos published in the quarterly newsletter, 1994. The warthog habitat exhibition sign features two of my photographs at the Fort Worth Zoo. Southwestern Bell 1994-95 edition of the Fort Worth Telephone Directory published one of my photographs of “Neela” the white Bengal tiger at the Fort Worth Zoo and two photos of Sumatran tigers (Fort Worth Zoo) were featured in an October 1994 edition of “Cats Magazine”, a national publication.

A business in Austin, Texas displays one of my black leopard photographs on their promotional materials and business cards and a business in Gainesville, Florida features two of my photographs on their website, one of a black leopard and one of a lion painted on denim jackets.

I make several donations of my art each year to various non-profit agencies, such as, Campfire Artists Christmas Auction, Artists Against Aids, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), the local Alzheimer’s Association, and Smith History Center in Cleburne.

I belong to several local art associations and I am on the Board of Directors of two of them.
